From the lineup to the price of tickets, Glen Murphy gives us the lowdown on our favourite surf and music festival, Sea Sessions.
The sound of music returns once more to Bundoran Beach in Donegal this June as part of the surf and music festival, Sea Sessions.
The self proclaimed beach party weekend of the year runs from Friday July 24th to Sunday June 26th.
This year’s headliners include British hip hop star Tinie Tempah (remember him?), Scottish alt rockers Primal Scream and Dublin’s own Gavin James.
Other notable acts on the bill include Ham Sandwich, Pleasure Beach, Bitch Falcon, Third Smoke and Picture This.
But what makes it different from other festivals? Well the location is one thing. Bundoran has long been a classic domestic holiday destination and the beach of the same name is no exception.
Stretching in front of the town itself and topped off with a naturally formed swimming pool among the rocks, it's no wonder holiday makers have flocked there since the Victorian era.
The camp site this year is located at the West End of the town’s GAA club on Bayview Avenue off the main street. The site has 24 hour security, hot showers and changing rooms.
Apart from the music and the scenery, there’s another unique gig on offer this year. The lads from Aprés Match will be performing live in the Comedy/Euro 2016 area.
Five live matches from the tournament will be shown with commentary and sketches from Aprés Match, as well as stand up comedians including Karl Spain
Even if music and laughter doesn’t tickle your fancy, then be sure to check out the sporting activities taking place on the beach. Barefoot tag rugby and barefoot soccer are being organised during the day to take place.
The beach soccer will have a Euros theme and squads will be made up of at least 10 people. Volleyball and handball will also be played, but are organised through a separate set up process on the festival’s website.
Don’t rely on the weather, but just hope it's as sunny as a seaside festival needs. Regardless of the weather, the music, the laughs and the sports should be enough to entice you to one of the most naturally beautiful parts of the county.
