Want to look golden without the risk to your skin? Amanda Leeson has us covered with her go-to guide to fake tan.
The sun has come out as we could only expect as we get ever closer to exam season. However, if you don't have time to lay soaking up some rays, false tan is the next best thing.
I am a self confessed lover of tan. It's just unfortunate for me that when I try to get a “natural” tan, I just end up burnt or covered in freckles. As I burn so easily I always wear factor 50 when I'm out in the sun. The most important thing is to protect your skin. There are so many tans flooding the market, it's hard to know where to begin, so I'm going to talk you through 3 different tans and give you some tips on how to apply them.
1. Developing Tan.
Developing tans are probably the most well known type of tan available. It simply means that you apply your tan, leave it on overnight or while you do other bits and then just wash it off to reveal the golden colour.
* Cocoa Brown: 1 hour tanning mouse. (Available in medium, dark & extra dark) €7.99
This tan is honestly amazing. I recently tried the extra dark shade and it gives such a rich colour pay off. The colour build allows even application to reduce the risk of streaks.
* BBold: Smart mouse 321 colour. €14:95
The theory behind this tan is incredible; you simple apply the tan, leave for 3 hours and then shower it off. HOWEVER, when you shower it off it continues to darken. This avoids the risk of spreading tan onto your sheets or even just finding the time to wash it off the next day.
2. Wash Off Tan.
This literally does what it says on the tin. Perfect if you have a last minute event and have forgotten to do your tan. This can also be described as “body makeup” because it just provides you with a small amount of colour that can be easily washed away with soapy water.
* Rimmel: Sun shimmer instant tan-shimmer. €2.95
This product comes in 3 different shades, depending on how dark you like your tan. It last up to 24 hours and is super easy to apply. It won't transfer to clothes and is water resistant. It contains a slight amount of shimmer to give you that golden look.
3. Gradual Tan.
This type of tan is essentially a moisturiser that contains a small amount of developing tan ingredient. This is perfect for the person who wants to build up a natural looking tan. Simply apply it like you would a moisturiser until you get the desired result.
* Bondi Sands: Gradual tanning milk with SPF 15. €16.00
This product gives your skin hydration while giving you colour pay off. The added SPF is a benefit as it provides extra protection for your skin.
All product mentioned are available in pharmacies nationwide. Enjoy the sunshine!
